Overdose of nicotine and its effects

Nicotine is perhaps the one substance that everyone around the world knows about. In fact, people usually associate with all of the addictive and harmful effects they can think of. For instance, knowing that coffee is not very good for your health, they have come to ascribe the harmful effects of coffee to nicotine. However, it might come as a surprise to many that nicotine is not even present in coffee. It is caffeine that you so want to criticize.

Cigarettes and Nicotine:

Perhaps the most common place that you find nicotine is in cigarettes because nicotine is naturally found in tobacco leaves. Nicotine then often becomes one of the main reasons why people smoke because it is known to be highly addictive. This then also gives rise to the fact that people falsely ascribe the negative effects of cigarettes to only nicotine. This is not true, tar and tobacco are more to blame for all the harm that cigarettes entail than nicotine. The only reason that you could blame nicotine for in cigarettes is that they lead to an addiction.

Nicotine Content and Overdoses:

Although nicotine is highly addictive, it takes some being used to. That is why when someone smokes for the first time, they cough violently. The nicotine stings on their throat and causes them to cough out. This is usually referred to as a throat hit. Only once you get used to a certain level of nicotine content will you stop experiencing it for a particular level of nicotine. However, it can also happen even after you get used to the nicotine. If you use a cigarette with more nicotine than you are used to, you will experience very hard throat hits.

When it comes to overdoses, although it has already been explained that tar and tobacco are more to blame for the negative effects of cigarettes, it must be realized that nicotine, by nature can be poisonous when taken in large quantities. However, the amount that is usually present in cigarettes is very little to cause any overdose and that is why you get along fine with your normal cigarettes.

However, if you do add extra nicotine to your cigarettes, over and above what you can handle, it is highly probable that you will experience the effects of nicotine overdose, which usually comes in the form of nicotine poisoning.

Effects of Nicotine Poisoning:

Nicotine poisoning effects the nervous system in particular and can cause extreme discomfort. The most typical symptoms of nicotine poisoning include extreme nausea, business, headache – which is also a symptom of nicotine deprivation when it comes to quitting cigarettes – dizziness and fatigue.
Cases of nicotine poisoning can be lethal, especially in the case of children, who do not need much for it to become an overdose. In adults around 30 to 60mg of nicotine can lead to overdose and nicotine poisoning. Although the most common form of overdose happens from inhalation, it can also stem from skin contact and second hand smoke from cigarettes.
